The special tour of Tallinn Design Festival will focus on Adamson-Eric’s design and applied art oeuvre at the museum’s permanent exhibition.

Adamson-Eric (1902–1968) is known in Estonian cultural history as a superb painter, but he was also a significant innovator of applied art and design, and brought fresh and modern approaches to the local culture of form. In Adamson-Eric’s oeuvre, design and applied art were mixed with visual arts. In addition to oil painting, he made practical objects of leather, playfully painted porcelain, created glamorous jewellery and designed furniture and textiles.

He developed an idiosyncratic world of patterns by mixing conventional motifs from nature and folk culture with contemporary trends, such as Art Deco, Surrealism and Abstractionism. Adamson-Eric’s applied art and designs have left resplendent marks on the history of Estonian design.

The tour is led by the art historian Karin Vicente.
